Sometimes I find it hard to put into words why I shoot boudoir photography. To me, it is so much more than photos. It’s about self-acceptance, body positivity, and art. It is about getting glammed up and laughing your butt off. It’s about the transformation that takes place between the time you walk in my studio and walk back out that door. It is about feeling beautiful, and that is something I believe every woman deserves.
The Transformation
The transformations that take place in our studio is the best part of the whole experience for us. When a woman arrives in my studio, most of the time she’s nervous, sometimes even visibly nervous. Shaky hands and voices, sweaty hands and faces are the things I see all the time. Once they sit in the chair to get their hair and make up done, the transformation begins. The client slowly starts to Shen those signs and feelings of nervousness and anxiousness.
Then the shoot would start. The first set is to get you all warmed up. When I show the client the back of the camera after the first set, I usually hear “OH MY GOD, that’s me? NO WAY that’s me!” As we go into the next set the laughter and smiles and confidence start to come out!
By the time we finish the session and go in to the reveal, we’re friends. We’ve just shared and experience that they will NEVER forget. We’ve laughed and shared stories about our lives.
Once I show them their pictures on the tv their jaws drop! They see themselves like they never have before. This is one of the most amazing things about boudoir photography. I get a chance to show them how beautiful they are, how their spouse sees them. When they walk about that door, they’re smiling so big and they can’t wait to tell all their friends about what they just did.
A Little Glimpse of My Own Journey and Transformation
In the whirlwind of life’s ups and downs, I, like many others, struggled for years with a profound sense of unworthiness. My self-image was tainted by a long history of toxic relationships and misplaced attempts at seeking love and acceptance. It seemed that no matter where I turned, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I didn’t deserve love, neither from others nor from myself.
Even the birth of my beautiful children, who loved me unconditionally, failed to convince me of my own worthiness. I looked in the mirror and saw only the scars of past mistakes, and it was a painful sight.
It wasn’t until I faced the end of my marriage to my daughter’s father that I decided to pick up my camera once more. Photography had been a long-lost passion, and it was during this time of self-discovery that I stumbled upon boudoir photography. Little did I know that this art form would become not only my love but also my obsession.
Boudoir photography, at its core, is about capturing the essence of a person’s beauty and sensuality. It’s about revealing the inner strength, confidence, and self-love that often lie dormant beneath layers of self-doubt and insecurity. As I began to work with women in front of my camera, I started to realize that I had a unique power to reflect back to them what they couldn’t see in themselves.
It was a life-changing experience. I watched as women who had struggled with their own self-worth, just as I had, began to blossom before my lens. They learned to embrace their bodies, their flaws, their unique beauty. They discovered that they were worthy of love, not just from others but from themselves.
As I empowered these women to see their own beauty and worthiness, something incredible happened. I, too, underwent a profound transformation. Through boudoir photography, I learned that I had the capacity to help others shed their self-doubt and guilt, to reveal their true selves, and to believe in their own worthiness. In doing so, I began to believe in my own worthiness as well.
Boudoir photography, it turns out, is not just transformative for the women who book sessions with me; it has been equally transformative for me. Through my lens, I’ve found a way to heal and let go of the past, to embrace the person I am today, and to love myself unconditionally.
My journey with boudoir photography has taught me that self-love is not a destination but a lifelong process. It’s about recognizing our worthiness, letting go of self-doubt, and learning to love ourselves for who we are, scars and all. It’s about helping others see their own beauty and strength and, in turn, finding our own.
Boudoir photography has not only given me a creative outlet but also a path to self-discovery, self-acceptance, and self-love. It has shown me that every person is deserving of love and acceptance, especially from themselves. It’s a lesson that I carry with me every day, and one that I am privileged to share with the remarkable women who step in front of my camera.
In the end, boudoir photography has been a catalyst for transformation in my life, and it continues to be a powerful reminder that we are all worthy of love, especially the love we give to ourselves.
Yup, that’s me being a total goofball!
For me, boudoir photography is a celebration of your body and who you truly are.
I take pride in being able to help show women how to celebrate their bodies, their battles, and their victories they’ve been through. Let me show you your sparkles. Let me help remind you how to love and be proud of yourself.
